More than Music Piano Studio is designed
to
reach
out to children who want to learn
to play
the
piano.
Children are different in
many ways
and so are
their learning styles.
I decided to
take
music lessons
a step
further and open
up the
opportunity
for
children
from unique
roots and
capabilities
to engage in music
education through
the
use of the piano with
private
instruction.
This
includes children
who
have special
needs.
THE BENEFITS OF MUSIC FOR CHILDREN
The benefits of piano lessons for children
goes
beyond music education. Increased
eye-hand coordination, increased
concentration, improved
school performance
and increased self-esteem
are merely a few
of the proven benefits that
music instruction
can have on children. One
recent study
shows
that young children with
developed
skills in
rhythm perform better in
their
academic
studies during the early school
years. The
study shows that there is a large
difference
in the academic achievement levels
of students on different levels of rhythmic
competency. Students who scored high on all rhythmic tasks also were achieving at academic
expectation. Those who scored lower on the
rhythmic
test achieved below academic expectation.

HOW ARE SPECIAL NEEDS LESSONS DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR LESSONS?
Many children with special needs show interest in learning a musical instrument,
but
cannot
benefit from
traditional piano lessons. I adapt instructional methods
based
on
the child's
individual strengths and
learning styles in order to help
maximize success. |
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Each semester we will create specific goals depending on the child's needs and work to meet
those
goals. A commitment from parents to continue the work at home is vital for success. I will
help guide
parents through this important aspect. The lessons will include interactive teaching
activities
appropriate to learning styles and capabilities. An openness from the parents to have
meetings at
least quarterly to discuss their child's progress and establish new goals is necessary.
PERFORMANCES
Families will be encouraged to have their child participate in a recital at the end of each semester.
I will work with your child to help them develop the confidence and ability to perform.
GROUP AND FAMILY LESSONS
Group lessons are available depending on the amount of students willing to
participate.
Group lessons
allow students to engage in ensemble experiences
vital for musical
growth.
They are
also ideal for
children who need more
exposure
or practice with peers
in a
motivating and structured setting. I also
teach multiple
family members – siblings
and
parents and offer a
“bundle deal”
for families
(see cost
below for more information). |
